1. Auditions are goin, g well. It's been great to sit in on this side of the table and see the audition process. The truly painful part of auditions is not seeing someone who's bad. Or seeing someone butcher a song. It's really seeing someone who's wonderful but not right for this particular show or a an open slot in this show. It really does feel bad to have someone who's great that you can't use. I've been very impressed by the director/choreographer/casting agent's desire to let these particular people know that they did a great job but weren't right for it. I think it helps the actors to know and appreciate when something went well especially when they don't have the possitive reenforcement of actually getting the role.

We also had a crazy audition story that will I'm sure go down in NYC audition lore. This man auditioned for Franz including full costume, heltmet, suspenders and hankerchief that turned into a cane in the number. He got dangerously close to the the creatives including touching the assistant choreographer and 'reader'. Too close for my comfort. He then proceeded to pull out a 'glove' puppet of Adolf Hitler and talk through him for a few minutes, including such memorable phrases as 'The Furor has a cold' and 'Don't you want to meet the little wittle furor?' It was so strange and ultimately scarry. I was fairly certain he was going to pull out a gun from his bag. I was only slightly relieved to see that it was a Hitler puppet.

2. Saw the Producers tonight. It was pretty sloppy both vocally and choreography wise. This is often the case I've found with shows that have been open for a while. The cast wasn't very insync and several ensemble members weren't very focused throughout the show. It was fun thought. Most of the leads were solid and it helped to finally see the show. It will definitely be a fun show to do night after night. It's all about schtick and keeping it tight which will be a great change from R and H. The set's are so huge it will be interesting to see what get's cut for this year of touring. Anyhow have to go to bed now. More to follow.
